The green leaves of a sage plant

Sage aka Salvia Officinalis

Good day to you! In the spotlight we have a plant that's delicious when used in cooking, and also has several health benefits to go along with it: Sage.

The botanical name of this plant is Salvia Officinalis.

This plant is in the mint family (Lamiaceae), along with rosemary, peppermint, and motherwort. Sage has a variety of health benefits! It's known to help with brain health, specifically concentration and memory, much like rosemary. When used as an essential oil, you can rub a bit under your nose to get these benefits. Sage contains strong antibacterial properties, which can help improve oral health, reduce sore throats, and fight off skin irritations. When used as a mouthwash, it helps kill off harmful bacteria that causes cavities and tooth decay. This plant can also be used to stimulate hair growth - in essential oil form, gently rub Sage onto your scalp.

Just like other plants in the mint family, sage is great at deterring bugs away from where you keep it! It's a great idea to have some sage planted in your garden to help keep the bugs at bay.

Have a MAGICAL day,
Jenny

PLANT INGESTION WARNING!
As with all herbs and plants you plan to ingest, never ingest them before doing your own research and/or talking with your doctor - it’s possible that medications you take or health conditions you have could have a negative effect if paired with sage. Better safe than sorry!
