Good day to you! Today in the spotlight we have a plant that helps relieve pains: Meadowsweet, also known ask meadwort, bridewort, or queen of the meadow.
The botanical name of this plant is Filipendula Ulmaria.
The above ground parts of meadowsweet are where the medicinal properties are concentrated - flowering tops, leaves, and stems. Meadowsweet has been used throughout history to relieve rheumatic pains, such as minor aches, headaches, and joint and muscle discomfort. This plant is ALSO great for relieving digestive discomfort by soothing stomach aches, heartburn, and intestinal inflammation by protecting the stomach lining.
An interesting thing about this plant is that it was one of the two plants that aspirin was derived from! Without getting too complicated, components of meadowsweet and components from willow bark turned into the pain medication that we all know of today. Fascinating!
