Mullein aka Verbascum Thapsus

Good day and happy official Summer season to you! For those of us in the Northern Hemisphere, at least. The plant we have today is: Mullein, also known as Great Mullein or Common Mullein.

The Latin name of this plant is Verbascum thapsus.

The leaves of the mullein plant are known to help with lung ailments: they contain astringent and demulcent properties, which can help open the airway to the lungs and remove congestion. Certain phytochemicals found in these leaves can also benefit people with asthma by reducing inflammation in the airways and loosening mucus. Infused olive oil made with the flowers of this plant is known as a highly regarded remedy for treating ear infections. Garlic is also often added to the oil as well - garlic has antimicrobial properties that can help fight bacterial, viral, or fungal infections, while the mullein contains antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties. The oil can be warmed slightly and dripped into the ear to work its magic.

Have a magical day!

PLANT INGESTION WARNING!
As with all herbs and plants you plan to ingest, never ingest them before doing your own research and/or talking with your doctor - it’s possible that medications you take or health conditions you have could have a negative effect if paired with mullein. Better safe than sorry!
