Good day! The plant taking the spotlight today is: Horehound, also called white horehound or common horehound.
The Latin name of this plant is Marrubium Vulgare.
Horehound is in the plant family called Lamiaceae, the mint family. There's a soft hairy coating on the leaves of horehound that give it a sort of grey color. This plant has long been known for treating respiratory ailments. It can be helpful in treating colds and helping with digestive issues, as it targets healing in the large intestine. In fact! It's an ingredient in Ricola brand throat lozenges.
The leaves and flowers are where the medicinal properties of horehound are located. The properties being its use as: an expectorant, antispasmodic, emmenagogue (treatment for menstrual symptoms), vulnerary (used to treat wounds), and antimicrobial. It's most useful for treating any issue involving the lungs that involves dry, unproductive coughs. The taste of horehound is quite bitter, so it's often seen in powder form or capsules instead of something like a tea infusion.
Have a magical day!

PLANT INGESTION WARNING!
As with all herbs and plants you plan to ingest, never ingest them before doing your own research and/or talking with your doctor - it’s possible that medications you take or health conditions you have could have a negative effect if paired with horehound. Better safe than sorry!
