Good day! Today we've got a plant that can bring clarity: Gotu kola, commonly known as Indian pennywort.
The Latin name of this plant is Centella asiatica.
The leaves of gotu kola are where the medicinal benefits are concentrated. These leaves have long been used as a nervine tonic to help soothe the central nervous system and relax tension caused by anxiety. Drinking tea infused with gotu kola leaves before bed can encourage a restful nights sleep for people who struggle with stress-related insomnia. This plant is also known to improve blood circulation in the body, and is a highly revered cognitive enhancer - known for sharpening memory and increasing mental focus and concentration.
The leaves contain compounds called Triterpene Saponins, which offer anti-inflammatory benefits as well as encouraging collagen formation and strengthening connective tissues. Whether consumed or used topically, gotu kola is also great for the skin, and regular use can lead to a smooth complexion. The leaves have a subtle bitter taste, and can be placed right into salads, or made into teas, tinctures, or extracts. You'll also often find it in powdered and capsule form.
Have a magical day!
Jenny
PLANT INGESTION WARNING!
As with all herbs and plants you plan to ingest, never ingest them before doing your own research and/or talking with your doctor - it’s possible that medications you take or health conditions you have could have a negative effect if paired with gotu kola. Better safe than sorry!
