Good day! Today we're focusing on the gorgeous flowering plant that is a real healer - Calendula, also known as pot marigold. I originally thought this was pronounced as "cal-en-doola", but it's pronounced as "cul-end-yuh-luh."
The Latin name of this plant is very straightforward: Calendula officinalis.
The beautiful colorful flowers on this plant are where the medicinal properties are concentrated. They contain anti-inflammatory, anti-bacterial, anti-fungal, and anti-microbial properties, along with wound-healing properties. Because of this, calendula is known to accelerate healing in the body. These flowers are also known to fight against the herpes virus! So symptoms from things like cold sores, shingles, and chicken pox can be lessened by ingesting calendula. The flowers are even good for lessening menstrual cramp pain, strengthening gut health, and healing skin. A true full body healer, soothing type of plant. Since the medicinal properties of the plant are in the flowers, all you need to do is pick the flowers from the plant and put them in a salad or make a tea infusion to feel the healing benefits.
Have a magical day,
Jenny
PLANT INGESTION WARNING!
As with all herbs and plants you plan to ingest, never ingest them before doing your own research and/or talking with your doctor - it’s possible that medications you take or health conditions you have could have a negative effect if paired with calendula. Better safe than sorry!
