The white and yellow flowers of a chamomile plant

Chamomile aka Matricaria Chamomilla aka Chamaemelum Nobile

Good day! Today in the spotlight we have a beautiful plant that is a calming nervine: Chamomile.

There are two species of chamomile that are commonly used: the roman chamomile known as Matricaria Chamomilla and the german chamomile known as Chamaemelum Nobile.

The flower part of chamomile is where its medicinal properties are concentrated, so you'll want to harvest them when the flowers are in full bloom. This plant is known as a nervine, which means it can calm the nerves and bring some stress relief. It also works well when used to treat insomnia - pair chamomile with valerian or skullcap and turn it into a tea, then drink 30 minutes before bedtime!

Chamomile is used for pain relief, both internally and topically. It works as an anti-inflammatory and reduces muscle spasms, which makes it especially helpful for people experiencing menstrual cramps as well as aiding with general gut health. It also has powerful anti-microbial, anti-bacterial, and anti-fungal properties.

Have a magical day,
Jenny

PLANT INGESTION WARNING!
As with all herbs and plants you plan to ingest, never ingest them before doing your own research and/or talking with your doctor - it’s possible that medications you take or health conditions you have could have a negative effect if paired with chamomile. Better safe than sorry!
