Good day to you! Hopefully a good day at least. In the plant spotlight today we have a plant that's extremely nutritious: Alfalfa.
The botanical name of this plant is Medicago Sativa.
Alfalfa has antioxidant and astringent properties, and is a nutrient-rich herb, particularly rich in iron, magnesium, calcium, and potassium. Due to its high concentration of antioxidants, flavonoids (naturally occurring plant compounds), and saponins (separate naturally occurring plant compounds that are known for their soap-like foaming properties - intended as a plant's natural defense against pests), alfalfa exhibits anti-inflammatory properties as well.
The way alfalfa is often used medicinally is for general malnutrition to combat tiredness and weakness. It's a helpful plant for lowering cholesterol, supporting metabolic health, and fighting cellular damage. You can make a simple tea with the leaves, sprouts, and/or roots to get alfalfa's health benefits!
Have a magical day,
Jenny
PLANT INGESTION WARNING!
As with all herbs and plants you plan to ingest, never ingest them before doing your own research and/or talking with your doctor - it’s possible that medications you take or health conditions you have could have a negative effect if paired with alfalfa. Better safe than sorry!
