Peppermint aka Mentha x Piperita

Good day! Today we have a plant that nearly all of us are familiar with: Peppermint.

The Latin name of this plant is Mentha x Piperita. It's a hybrid species of mint, a cross between watermint and spearmint. Interesting.

Peppermint is known to be good for gut health, as it helps with digestion and upset stomach by easing gas and bloating. Due to its cooling nature, peppermint's known to ease tension and promote a general sense of calm. In general, if it supports the digestive system, it also supports the nervous system. It's also delicious, smells nice, and can freshen your breath! There are many varieties of teas on supermarket shelves that include peppermint; you can also make your own peppermint tea using fresh peppermint leaves. If you're not growing your own, supermarkets usually always have a small selection of peppermint plants in the produce section if you're looking to get some fresh.

This plant is an anti-spasmodic, meaning it can ease spasms and promote relaxation of the muscles in your body. You can make a poultice from the fresh leaves and gently apply it to any areas of muscle that could use some cooling relief.

Have a magical day,
Jenny

PLANT INGESTION WARNING!
As with all herbs and plants you plan to ingest, never ingest them before doing your own research and/or talking with your doctor - it’s possible that medications you take or health conditions you have could have a negative effect if paired with peppermint. Better safe than sorry!
