Good day to you! Our plant in the spotlight today is: Motherwort.
The Latin name of this plant is Leonurus Cardiaca.
The leaves and tiny flowers of motherwort are where the majority of its medicinal properties are located. This plant is in the mint family (Lamiaceae), and as with the majority of plants in the mint family, it has a square stem that makes it easier to identify. The flavor of motherwort has an intense bitterness to it, so it’s best taken in tincture form instead of eaten raw or as a tea.
The medicine of this plant works mostly through the nervous system with its anti-spasmodic and anti-anxiety properties. It also aids with issues in the body surrounding the liver, gallbladder, and heart, along with the female reproductive system. It works its magic in all these areas to relieve tension and constriction. It has an overall calming effect on the central nervous system, improves blood circulation in the body, and is known to regulate heart rate and ease rapid heartbeats.
Have a magical day,
Jenny
PLANT INGESTION WARNING!
As with all herbs and plants you plan to ingest, never ingest them before doing your own research and/or talking with your doctor - it’s possible that medications you take or health conditions you have could have a negative effect if paired with motherwort. Better safe than sorry!
