The white and pink flowers of an oregano plant

Oregano aka Origanum Vulgare

Good day to you! ANOTHER culinary herb in the mint family has made it into the blog: Oregano.

The botanical name of this plant is Origanum Vulgare.

Not only is this a plant that is delicious when used in cooking, it also is packed with health benefits that you may never even think of while using it. While most people use only the leaves, the medicinal parts of oregano are focused in the leaves and flowering tops. This plant is an expectorant, and has antiseptic, antibacterial, and antiviral properties, making it a useful herb in lessening congestion in the lungs. It's also known to help with coughs, colds, sinus problems, ear infections, and fighting off bacteria and viruses.

This is one of those herbs that is easy to include in your daily routine, since all you need to do is find some recipes to use it in. You can also easily find oregano oil in the health/vitamin sections of stores, or make your own oil at home if you grow oregano in your garden.

Have a magical day,
Jenny

PLANT INGESTION WARNING!
As with all herbs and plants you plan to ingest, never ingest them before doing your own research and/or talking with your doctor - it’s possible that medications you take or health conditions you have could have a negative effect if paired with oregano. Better safe than sorry!
