Good day! This week we have a plant that can heal wounds: Yarrow.
The botanical name of this plant is Achillea millefolium.
Yarrow has antiseptic, anti-inflammatory, and astringent properties, with its most concentrated medicinal parts being its flowers and leaves. Due to these astringent properties, this plant can be used to stop bleeding from small cuts and abrasions. Chewing the leaves of yarrow is also said to bring relief from toothaches and throat infections.
Another interesting thing about this plant: the pungent pine-like aroma of yarrow helps keep mosquitos away! When yarrow is crushed, applied to the skin, or burned, the natural compounds of the plant along with its strong smell function as a natural insecticide and bug repellent.
Have a magical day,
Jenny
PLANT INGESTION WARNING!
As with all herbs and plants you plan to ingest, never ingest them before doing your own research and/or talking with your doctor - it’s possible that medications you take or health conditions you have could have a negative effect if paired with yarrow. Better safe than sorry!
